Flies - The Tipula Lateralis

First seen on Monday 19th July 2021 at Druridge Pools

This Crane Fly is one of the more colourful cousins of the Common Crane Fly. However, unlike most varieties, which have a dark stripe down its abdomen, this one has a pale stripe. They are found in May to October, near water - their larvae are semi aquatic and feed on rotting plants.
