Waders - The Turnstone

First seen on Thursday 5th January 2023 at Druridge Pools

Turnstones are small waders that you may see anywhere along the coast. They get their name from the way they hunt for food. They rummage around the shore on a receding tide moving seaweed and pebbles looking for food underneath. It's fascinating to watch a group of them moving along the shore. However, they are not usually found at Druridge Pools, but this pair were probably there as it was high tide, which often leads waders to move a little inland.
