Thrushes and Chats - The Wheatear

First seen on Sunday 4th April 2021 at Druridge Pools

A Summer visitor, arriving in the spring, these birds are found on rugged ground, and on hills. They can often be seen on rocky outcrops and paths. They have very distinctive plumage, greys and browns, with a wide dark stripe through the eye (black in males) topped with white. In flight, they can be recognised by their white rump and black 'T" on the tail.


 

The one below was found in September and is probably a juvenile, but could be an adult female - they all look much the same in the autumn...
