Finches and Buntings - The Bullfinch

First seen on Sunday 22nd December 2019 at Wallington

The bullfinch is not a common bird, but they can be spotted now and again in the woodland areas. I've seen them in the orchard in the Walled Garden, in a tree by the House and of course by the Wildlife Hide. They both have sharply defined black faces and male is a bright orange-pink colour.

The female is a more subtle beige colour. They love eating seeds and flower buds from trees. The female below is actually eating the seed from a sycamore tree. They have a low reedy whistle sound, that is reminiscent of a squeaky wheelbarrow being pushed along.
