Corvids - The Jay

First seen on Thursday 27th February 2020 at Wallington

The Jay is the most colourful member of the corvid family. It is mostly pink in colour, but has a flash of vivid blue on its wings and a big black moustache. They are quite elusive shy birds, very difficult to see. They hide well in trees, but can occasionally be found feeding on the ground. They can often be heard before they are seen, as they make a harsh screech - often when other birds are arguing with them. This one was screeching near the wildlife hide, but only perched in a distant tree - annoyingly behind lots of twigs!
