Butterflies - The Painted Lady

First seen on Wednesday 2nd October 2019 at Wallington

The Painted Lady is one of our larger butterflies, with a wingspan of over two inches. Interestingly, it is a migrant, and arrives in the summer having travelled from North Africa. Numbers vary from year to year, the best year recently being 2019. It is beautifully coloured, in orange black and white. The under-wings are however quite spectacular as well. These were in the Walled Garden, in October - quite late in the year for butterflies.
