The spiked Sheildbug is also called the Spined Sheildbug. Most Shieldbugs are named after their food-plants for example - Hawthorn, Birch, Sloe, Juniper Sheildbugs. Others are named after their appearance, such as this one. It has vicious looking thorns on its 'shoulders'. They are predatory, feeding on the larvae of other insects.
