Ducks, Grebes and Coots - The Teal

First seen on Thursday 12th November 2020 at Wallington

The Teal is a winter visitor to the UK. The male Teal is a colourful duck, having a grey body, with a green panel on its brown head. The female shown in these photos is quite plain like many female ducks (good camouflage for nesting). Both have a green patch in the wing, which can be dazzling when it catches the sun. The Teal is one of the smallest ducks found in the UK, only 34-38cm in length. They are normally found on the Middle Pond, but these were on the China Pond.
