Moths - The Cocksfoot Moth

First seen on Sunday 25th May 2025 at Druridge Pools

The Cocksfoot Moth is a tiny brown moth (3-4mm long) so easily overlooked. I thought the name may be from the pattern on the wing resembling a cockerel's foot, but it is actually named after the cock's foot grass which the larvae feed on. The moths are usually found on buttercups, and many can be found on one flower - as shown here. They fly May-July.
