The Dotterel is not a bird you'd easily see, as they are usually found on mountain tops. This one was found at Druridge in an adjacent farm field, at the same time as there were a dozen or so others in the area, all on the coast. This is a male, the females have much brighter plumage. Dotterels are one of the few birds where the female leaves the eggs for the male to incubate and raise the young - hence the male plumage must be more subdued, for camouflage.
