Damselflies - The Blue-tailed Damselfly

First seen on Tuesday 15th June 2021 at Cragside

The name perfectly describes this damselfly and makes them quite easy to spot, even in flight, as the bright blue dot on the end of the tail shows well in sunlight. They can usually be found near water. They are around in May to August. The male is fairly consistent having all blue markings. The female's colours do vary a lot, from green-blue, pink, violet and olive green. Both sexes have distinct two-tone diamond wing spots.
