The Common Carder Bumblebee is relatively small for a bumblebee, and can be identified from its all-over ginger colour (most bumblebees have more distinctive coloured bands). It also has a hairy face. They can be found from spring until autumn. Carding, is a method used in wool manufacture, where the wool is combed in order to disentangle to fibres before spinning. The Carder Bumblebee gets its name from the fact that it combs material together to create protection for the larvae. It is one of the seven common bumblebees.
