Damselflies - The Emerald Damselfly

First seen on Tuesday 16th July 2019 at Cragside

The colours of this damselfly are beautiful metallic greens and blues, making them quite distinctive from most other damselflies. Another difference is the wings are often spread when resting, rather than the normal tight in line with the body. Emerald damselflies appear quite late in the summer. The male, in the first photo is metallic green and pale blue. the female (second photo) is a deeper green, with straw coloured surrounds.
