The Goshawk is a very difficult bird to see, and most times I think I have seen one at Cragside it has turned out to be a sparrowhawk. Sparrowhawks are smaller birds, but when you see then on their own high in the sky it is difficult to tell. However, this one had vertical streaks on its chest. Both Sparrowhawk and Goshawk adults have horizontal striking, but it is only the juvenile Goshawk that has this vertical streaking, so this one is probably a juvenile Goshawk.
