Corvids - The Jackdaw

First seen on Wednesday 28th April 2021 at Cragside

Jackdaws are quite noisy birds and you will often hear their metallic 'jack-jack-jack' call as they fly from tree-top to tree-top and argue about who has the best perch. Sometime they will come down to the ground to feed, these were near the formal garden. They were scavenging under the bird feeders, but a a typical corvid trick is digging up acorns than the squirrels had buried. At first glance, corvids can look similar - Jackdaws are the smallest, and have the characteristic grey hood, and lovely pale blue eyes.
