Ducks, Grebes and Coots - The Moorhen

First seen on Tuesday 15th June 2021 at Cragside

Another reliable bird seen at many National Trust properties with some sort of water. The Moorhen is not so numerous as other water birds, but can regularly be seen in, or near the reeds. Sometimes they can be seen foraging for food on the grass. Not dissimilar to the coot, but instead of a white beak and forehead moorhens have a bright red forehead and beak, with a yellow tip. They also have more brown feathers on their body.
