Tits, Nuthatches and Tree Creepers - The Nuthatch

First seen on Friday 4th February 2022 at Cragside

These birds are very common at Cragside and can be found (or more often heard) in any of the larger trees on the estate. Like treecreepers and goldcrests, they will be seen rummaging around for food on the trunk and branches, usually quite high up in the tree. If you want a close-up view, nuthatches can often be seen on the bird feeders - they like peanuts!

Unlike all other birds, nuthatches have the ability to walk down the trunk of the tree, and so can be easily identified its iconic 'upside-down' pose.
