Tits, Nuthatches and Tree Creepers - The Treecreeper

First seen on Monday 20th September 2021 at Cragside

Treecreepers favour trees with a rough bark and can be found almost anywhere on the estate where there are suitable trees, although I've not seen many (too many trees!). They start at the base of the trunk and work their way up the tree looking for food under the bark. They use their long curved beak to search in the cracks. They work their way round and round the trunk, so will disappear from view for a time. If you see a treecreeper, they will often be in a pose similar this. They have large claws for gripping onto the bark. This one was viewed from the Iron Bridge.
