Pigeons and Pheasants - The Wood Pigeon

First seen on Wednesday 28th April 2021 at Cragside

Wood Pigeons can be seen flying around the estate, sitting in the trees and grazing in the surrounding farm fields. They can also be found near feeders and cafes looking for some easy food.

Although initially looking like a stock dove, wood pigeons are different. They are plain grey like stock doves, but have a white patch on the neck, spoiling their patch of iridescent green. They also have a white bar on the wing - very distinctive when flying. Finally, they have those rather scary pale oval eyes.
