Flies - The Yellow-legged Bee-grabber

First seen on Sunday 23rd July 2023 at Cragside

Although this looks like a wasp, it is a fly - a wasp mimic. Conops flavipes is also know as the Yellow-legged Bee-grabber. As the name suggestes it preys on bees, its larvae are internal parasites of bumblebees. It lives in wet meadows and is normally flying June-August.
