Gulls - The Black-headed Gull

First seen on Tuesday 14th July 2020 at Druridge Pools

The Black-headed Gull can be seen anywhere, but A good place to see them is on the beach (often flying along the shoreline). They are the smallest of our 4 most common gulls. They are called black-headed gulls, as they have characteristic black heads, but only in the summer. Their black heads can often look distinctly chocolate coloured, and doesn't extend all down the neck.

In the winter, their colouring is much more subdued, with just a black spot behind the eye.
