The Green Carpet Moth is a medium sized moth with quite dramatic green colouration. They do lose their colour over time, so I was lucky to see this one still bright green. They generally fly in late afternoon and in the dark. Although classed as common and widespread, this was the first one I had seen in many years of moth watching. Ironically, it found me - after flying around for a few seconds, it landed next to me on the picnic bench I was sitting at, adjacent to Tumbleton lake.
