Moths - The Knapweed Conch

First seen on Tuesday 5th July 2022 at Cragside

The Knapweed Conch is also known as the Sulphur Knapweed Moth. The sulphur in its name refers to the colour, and common knapweed is its primary food source. Conch is a reference to its shape, there are many conch moths. These moths are dusk and night flying, and are not usually found this far north, so it would be quite unusual to see one at Cragside. They are quite small, with a wingspan of just 10-15mm.
